Project Description
This power station was constructed in six phases. The last phase was finished in 2008. It is being operated by one of the best controlling system named SCADA. It consists of an area of 150 ha. There are 13 production boreholes of which 8 produce a mixture of brine and steam, and the rest provide dry steam.
Purpose/Application
This power plant is the first geothermal power plant in the world producing combined electricity and hot water. The ‘Blue Lagoon’, one of the best tourist attraction places, is next to power station.
Unique Aspect
This is a great example of modern industry adjusting to natural and renewable sources of energy. Moreover it provides hot water and energy to the Blue Lagoon, a very nice and relaxing bathing resort to visit.
