Project Description

The Swansea Bay Tidal Lagoon is a project, which aims to build the world’s first tidal lagoon. The tidal lagoon will have an installed capacity of 320 MW and will provide a net power output of more than 530 GWh per year for 120 years. It will generate electricity for approximately 155 000 homes, which represent 11% of the Welsh domestic electricity consumption.

Purpose/Application

The aim of this project is to observe the operation of the plant and to develop it. The final goal is to develop a fleet of larger UK tidal lagoons to generate electricity from a renewable source.

Unique Aspect

This is the world’s first tidal lagoon.
