Sahiwal Coal Power Plant
Location: Sahiwal, Pakistan
Type: Conventional Coal
Status: Operational
Year of establishment: 2017
Installed Capacity: 1320 MWe
Project Description
This power plant is Pakistan's first supercritical coal power plant, and consists of two 660-megawatt (890,000 hp) units for a combined capacity of 1,320 MWe. The plant became operational in 2017.
Purpose/Application
The plants consist of one boiler, steam turbine and generator, each and are fueled by sub-bituminous coal which will be off-loaded at the project's purpose-built rail terminus. The supercritical steam generator operates at temperatures of up to 580˚C.
Unique Aspect
The plant includes an air quality monitoring system (Flue Gas Desulfurization), and an electrostatic precipitator in order to reduce ash and sulfur emissions from the plant. The concept of clean combustion is relatively new and this would encourage more research and awareness in the young generation.
