Połaniec Power Plant
Location: near Połaniec in Świętokrzyskie voivodeship in Poland
Type: coal and biomass fired
Status: Operational
Year of establishment: 1983; Modernization: 2012-2014
Installed Capacity: 1852 MW
Project Description
Combustion of coal or biomass produces heat which heats up working fluid of a cycle. The working fluid then undergoes expansion inside turbine and mechanical power is produced. The mechanical power is used to drive generator which produces electricity. In beginning of 2012 a construction of operational unit only fired with biomass started and at the end of 2012 the construction of the unit was finished. The units has 205 MW power.
Purpose/Application
The main purpose is to produce electricity. Creation of a unit fired with biomass decreased CO2 emissions.
Unique Aspect
It consists of 7 operating units fired with coal and 1 unit is fired with 80% of wood chips and 20% of agricultural waste. It is the largest biomass unit in the world.
