ORC unit - PITAGORAS project
Location: Brescia, Italy
Type: waste heat utilization unit
Status: Operational
Year of establishment: 2014
Installed Capacity: 10420 kWth, 1885 kWel
Project description
ORC circuit is integrated with waste heat recovery unit. Waste heat comes from steel mill (equipped with Electric Arc Furnace) flue gases. It uses silicone oil as working medium inside the circuit, what leads to low evaporation temperature of the agent and allows for generation of the final product.
Purpose/Application
It is built for electricity generation for own needs of steel mill and for district heating purposes.
Unique Aspect
It allows for utilizing enthalpy of the flue gases achieving temperature of 500°C, thus it leads to decrease of the exergy loss within the entire steel mill. Additionally, it can be used either for district heating or for electricity generation, according to needs.
