Produces 20% of the total power generation in Poland

Unique Aspect

The Bełchatów Power Station is the world's second largest (nominal power of 5,472 MW) lignite-fired power plant. It is the largest thermal power station in Europe, and second largest fossil-fuel power station in the world. The station's exhaust is expelled through two 300 m tall chimneys, which are among Poland's tallest free-standing structures. Coal for the plant is provided by a large neighboring strip mine.

Future Plans

To convert the existing plant to a nuclear power plant.
