The Palo Verde Generating Station is the largest power plant in the United States by net generation. Its average electric power production is about 3.3 gigawatts (GW) and this power serves about four million people.

Palo Verde is a significant facility as well as a contributor to the region’s economy. It provides a clean, reliable source of power for Maricopa County. While providing high-quality jobs to thousands and supporting local economy with millions of dollars’ worth of vendor purchases, the Palo Verde Generating Station is a crucial facility to have running in Arizona.
Unique Aspect
The selection of the site for Palo Verde was controversial- in the middle of the desert, it had little or no water supply, and it had prevailing westerly winds.
