RINGHALS NUCLEAR POWER PLANT
Location: Ringhals Kärnkraftverk, 432 85 Väröbacka, Sweden
Type: Nuclear
Status: Operational
Year of establishment: 1975
Installed Capacity: 3700 MW e
Project Description
Ringhals power plant consists of four reactors (R1, R2, R3, R4), R1 is a boiling water reactor it generates 881 MW electricity. It started operating since 1976, the other reactors are pressurized water reactors, R2 has stopped operating in 2019, which was producing 865 MW. R3 and R4 still operating and both are producing 1063, and 1123 MW respectively.
Purpose/application: It generates approximately one-fifth of electricity used in Sweden
Unique Aspect
Ringhals nuclear power plant is the biggest nuclear power plant in the Nordic countries, powered since 1975. It has four generators and producing one-fifth of all the energy consumption in Sweden. Ringhals nuclear power plant has a total electrical net power of approximately 3,932 MW. Ringhals is thus Sweden's largest nuclear power plant in terms of electricity production. In addition, the nuclear power plant is one of the few plants in the world that has both boiling water and pressurized water reactors.
