Project Description
The Kudankulam Nuclear power plant is located in the Tirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu in India. It is the largest nuclear power station present in India. The Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant consists of two units. Each unit contains a Pressurised Water Reactor
(PWR). Each reactor produces 1000 MW of electricity. The total electricity generated by the plant is 2 GW.
Purpose and Applications
46 % of the power generated from Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant is used for the power need of Tamil Nadu while the remaining 54 % of power generated is exported to other states of India.
Unique Aspect
The Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant is the largest Nuclear power plant in India. The amount of power generated is no where close when compared to the other Nuclear power plants of India. It is the most technically advanced Nuclear power plant in India. The safety technologies adopted by the plant are some the most advanced technologies in the world ensuring the safety of the plant.
