Project Description
Magat dam is of rock fill construction with a maximum output of 380 megawatts (MW). It draws water from the Magat river through the multi-purpose Magat dam.
Purpose/Application
Magat Dam is part of the Magat River Multipurpose Project whose primary objective was to expand the existing Magat River Irrigation System to triple rice production in the Cagayan River basin in an effort to attain the country’s self-sufficiency in staple food supply. It was constructed as a multi-purpose project, for both irrigation and electricity generation. Currently about 85,000 ha of land is irrigated, and irrigation daily requirements are discharged on a priority basis.
Unique Aspect
The Magat Hydroelectric Power Plant is one of the largest hydro facilities in Luzon. Moreover, Magat Dam is one of the most famous tourist destinations in the province of Isabela offering activities such as picnicking, fishing, and engaging in various types of water sports such as water skiing.
