Project Description

NLC is a lignite/brown coal-powered power plant situated in Neyveli, Cuddalore district of Tamil Nadu in India. NLC consists of two power stations, Thermal Power Station 1 and Thermal Power Station 2. The total electric power generated by Neyveli Lignite Corporation is 2490 MW.

Purpose/Application

83% of the electricity which is generated is exported and sold to different states and only a small percentage of the electricity generated is used for power supply in Tamil Nadu making it one of the largest exporters of electricity.

 

Unique Aspect

NLC is one of the largest electricity producing coal power plants in India and the largest in Tamil Nadu. The project plan also sees it expanding and generating more power in the near future.
