Project Description
When there is incoming tide a sluice gates allows the reservoir to be refilled by the tide and water retains in the reservoir. Power is generated by water turbine when the tide is out which occurs for about five hours, twice a day. It achieves capacity of 20 MW but local government of Nova Scotia wants to increase tidal power plant capacity to 300 MW by 2020.
Purpose/Application
It is built for power generations and provides enough energy to supply 4500 houses.
Unique Aspect
Barrage encloses and area of water of 15 km2 and the mean tidal range is equal to 6,4 m2.
